Norway
Despite the sad occasion, smiles were contagious at the Norwegian residence Aug. 20. There, a tony group of diplomats, influential Canadians, journalists and socialites gathered to bid farewell to a popular pair on the diplomatic circuit: Norwegian Ambassador Tor Bertin Naess and his spouse Bodil Ingunn Thorvik.
Indonesia
The Embassy of Indonesia threw a fun-filled national day celebration Aug. 19 on the mission’s spacious grounds. Thanks to entertainment and culinary help from the very keen Indonesian-Canadian diaspora community, and some nice weather, this party was a hit!
Switzerland
Lovers of the French language gathered at the Swiss ambassador's residence on Aug. 13 for a reception in honour of Pascal Couchepin. As the Francophonie's new Grand Témoin, or 'Great Witness,' Switzerland's interior minister will observe the Vancouver Olympics to ensure French gets its due as an official language of the games.

Fortissimo!
The sounds of bagpipes and brass bands echoed loud and proud through the streets of Ottawa last week as Canada’s military bands massed for Fortissimo! Bands from all branches of the Canadian Forces strutted, alongside folks from the RCMP and the Drums and Pipes of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in this highly co-ordinated two-hour performance on Parliament Hill.
Ecuador
The Embassy of Ecuador celebrated their country’s national day Aug. 10, the only mission to throw a party during these dog days of summer.

The Embassy of Indonesia played a friendly soccer match against Team Health Canada on Aug. 7, an event held to bid farewell to departing Indonesian Ambassador Djoko Hardono.
Michelle's Going Away
A fun-loving group of journalists, diplomats and friends came out July 29 to bid farewell to Embassy reporter Michelle Collins, who has returned to Toronto for her Masters studies in international affairs.
Switzerland
Guests from the five continents gathered at the residence of Swiss Ambassador Werner Baumann on July 30, where they enjoyed typical Swiss delights such as Bündnerfleisch and raclette.
