The French ambassador held a reception on Feb. 18 to induct chef Christian Faure as a knight into the French National Order of Merit in Agriculture.
Arab Trade
Iraqi Ambassador Howar Ziad, dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors, hosted a reception Monday evening at the Rideau Club to kick off two days of activities by the Canada-Arab Business Council. The event attracted a slew of cabinet ministers and Canadian ambassadors to the Middle East, who have returned to Ottawa for meetings this week.
Black and White
Opera Lyra celebrated their annual gala fundraiser, the Black and White Opéra Soirée, on Saturday with a political rendition of Gilbert and Sullivan, Live from the Hill.
Snowflake Ball
The Snowflake Ball’s Venetian masquerade took place at the Casino du Lac-Leamy on Feb. 14. The fundraiser for Crohn’s, Colitis, Colorectal Cancer and CHEO featured carnival-style theatrical performances, a Venetian-themed dinner and dancing late into the night.
ODA
The Japanese Embassy hosted a party on Feb. 11 for the Ottawa Diplomatic Association.
Rideau Institute Dinner
The Rideau Institute held its 2nd Annual Gala dinner on Feb. 12. Keynote speaker Joe Clark gave a presentation Canada’s foreign policy in the age of Obama.
Serbia
The ambassador had to return to Serbia earlier than expected and so was not there to host, but the country’s National Day Party was still held on Feb. 16 at the Château Laurier.
Farewell
On Feb. 3, Iraqi Ambassador Howar Ziad held a going away lunch for the departing dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors, Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Tangi. The lunch was held at the Château Laurier.
Serbia
Serbian Ambassador Dusan Batakovic held a small dinner with some of his closest Canadian contacts Friday night. Mr. Batakovic has been reassigned to Paris, and will be leaving later this month.
Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan High Commission celebrated the country’s National Day with a flag raising ceremony on Feb. 4.
Diplomats Day
The Russian Embassy hosted a reception in honour of Diplomats Day on Feb. 10.
Mexico
The Mexican ambassador said farewell to his colleagues at a reception on Feb 4. He will be taking up the post of Mexican ambassador to New Zealand shortly.
Ice Skating
Jörn Rohde, minister-counsellor at the German Embassy, hosted a skating party at the Rideau Hall ice skating rink on Feb 3.
Norway
The Embassy of Norway hosted a get-together at the ambassador’s residence on Jan. 29.
Canadian Music Competition
The Romanian Embassy hosted a concert by musicians in the Canadian Music Competition on Jan. 30.
Cuba
The Cuban Embassy celebrated the country’s National Day at a reception on Jan. 28.
