Azerbaijan
The embassy of Azerbaijan hosted a classical music concert on Jan. 18 at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa to commemorate the Black January 1990 tragedy.
Hungary
Hungarian Ambassador László Pordány awarded Alan Walker, an internationally acclaimed researcher of Hungarian pianist Franz Liszt, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary on Jan. 17 at a reception at Mr. Pordány’s residence.
Korea
The Korean Embassy on Jan. 17 at the Ottawa Convention Centre hosted the launch of a caravan of events across major cities in Canada leading up to the 50th anniversary of Canada-Korea diplomatic relations next year.
Egypt
Egyptian Ambassador Wael Aboul-Magd hosted a reception at his home on Jan. 23 to mark the first anniversary of his country’s revolution.
Turkey
The Turkish Embassy honoured the late Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf R. Denktas on Jan. 23 at the ambassador’s residence.
Snowshoeing
The Diplomatic Hospitality Group and the wife of the Japanese ambassador, Masako Ishikawa, hosted a snowshoeing event at her residence on Jan. 20, with nearly 100 participants.

International Year of Co-operatives
Thousands of co-op and credit union members held events across Canada on Jan. 12 to launch the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives. The Ottawa launch took place at the National Arts Centre.
Olympic flag raising
To mark 200 days until the opening of the Summer Olympics in London, UK, British High Commissioner Andrew Pocock raised the host country flag in front of the British High Commission on Elgin Street on Jan. 9, alongside Canadian Olympian Kristin Gauthier, who is a kayaker.
France
French Ambassador Philippe Zeller honoured Le Droit food writer and editorial page editor Pierre Jury and hotelier Patrice Basille, Brookstreet Hotel executive vice-president and general manager, with the National Order of Agricultural Merit on Jan. 10 at the French Embassy.
Grand Winter Festival
The Ottawa Diplomatic Hospitality Group held its Grand Winter Festival on Jan. 13. One hundred people attended from more than 30 countries, enjoying the winter wonderland at Smithvale Stables.
Vietnam
Vietnamese Ambassador Sy Vuong Ha Le and his wife Lan Anh Nguyen hosted a reception to mark the Year of the Dragon at the National Arts Centre on Jan. 14.

United States Ambassador David Jacobson and his wife Julie Jacobson hosted a holiday open house on Dec. 13 at their home.
Qatar
The embassy of Qatar hosted a reception at the Lac-Leamy Hilton hotel in Gatineau to celebrate Qatar’s national day on Dec. 19.
Croatia
Croatian Ambassador Veselko Grubisic and his wife Marta Grubisic hosted a reception for EU ambassadors, with special guest Foreign Minister John Baird, at the embassy on Dec. 19.
Ukraine
The Ukrainian Embassy hosted a reception at the embassy on Dec. 16 to celebrate Armed Forces Day of Ukraine.
Mexico
On Dec. 13 the Mexican Embassy hosted a dinner at Le Cordon Bleu restaurant in Ottawa to celebrate the first anniversary of traditional Mexican cuisine being included on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
Norway
The Norwegian Embassy hosted a celebration on Dec. 14 at the Army Officers’ Mess in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen’s arrival at the South Pole, featuring students from Nunavut Sivuniksavut, an Inuit school in Ottawa. Mr. Amundsen had a very special relationship with the Inuit and Canada’s North. This relationship played an important role in his success reaching the pole.
