It was an active week of winter sports for diplomats and their spouses. The Diplomatic Hospitality Group put their best feet forward at the Malaysian high commissioner’s residence on Jan. 25 as guests tried out the ancient Canadian art of snowshoeing. The next day, the Ottawa Diplomatic Association, the Slovenian Embassy and the Office of Protocol helped everyone strap on their skis for a day on the powdery slopes at Camp Fortune.

The Slovenian embassy celebrated taking over the EU presidency with a concert and reception on Jan. 16.
Iceland
Diplomats from the Nordic countries and members of Ottawa's Icelandic community came together Jan. 17 to honour a great Canadian naturalist. Dr. Jack Ives, a geographer, has conducted decades of
research on Iceland’s Skaftafell glacier and even had a hand in making the place a national park. For his efforts he was recently inducted into Iceland’s Order of the Falcon.

Commenting on the unique ambiance, Ms. May quipped: “It feels like real life!”
