Asia Pacific Food Fair
The Asia Pacific heads of mission spouses held a luncheon on May 26 where they presented representatives from Harmony House with a cheque for $20,000 which was raised at the Asian Pacific Food Fair on May 10.

On May 28, St. Brigid?s Catholic Church held its annual Santacruzan parade in Lowertown. Filipino Ambassador Jos? S. Brillantes joined the largely Filipino parish to celebrate the traditional May festival.
Panama
Hairstylist Rinaldo hosted a birthday party for Panama?s Ambassador to Canada on May 27
Africa Day
The African Missions in Ottawa celebrated the anniversary of the forming of the African Union with a reception at the Ch?teau Laurier on May 25.
Ashbury
Ashbury College hosted a concert by Balkan guitar masters Vlatko Stefanovski and Miroslav Tadic on May 25.
Mongolia
The Embassy of Mongolia celebrated the 400th anniversary of their national day with a reception on May 23.
Romania
A visiting Romanian volleyball team challenged a team from Ashbury College comprised of student athletes, alumni and staff members to a friendly match on May 24.

The European Union-Canada Young Journalist Awards were handed out at the National Press Club on May 18. The three winners will be off on a study tour Brussels in a few weeks, and will get to meet the largest press corps in the world.

The Embassy of Brazil hosted a cocktail reception on May 18 for Brazilian musician Marcos Valle, a world-renowned composer from the so-called ?second wave? of bossa nova musicians who was in town performing at the Museum of Civilization.
United States
On May 19, the U.S. Embassy hosted a breakfast reception for the Tulip Festival and to celebrate the recent planting of 18 elm trees by the Embassy and the National Capital Commission along Sussex Drive.

The Ghana High Commission hosted a farewell reception for their head of mission on May 19.

The Association of Palestinian Arab Canadians (Capital Region) and the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations hosted a sit-down dinner at the National Press Club on May 18 in honour of Amin Abou Hassira, the Palestinian Delegate to Canada.

While stressing Australia and Canada?s close historic ties, Mr. Howard also said that the U.S. is a force for good in the world and those wishing it had less influence should be careful what they wish for. ?Australia, as you know, is an unapologetic friend of the United States,? he said. In his address, Mr. Howard also encouraged Canada to join the Asia-Pacific Partnership, which he considers an alternative to the Kyoto Protocol.
