Canada, Ghana at odds on climate change fix

Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills wants to revisit Kyoto. But Canada isn't interested in a second commitment period.

At the United Nations climate change conference in Durban, South Africa next week, Canada and Ghana will likely sit on opposite sides of the table.

The west African state and Canada are both oil-producing nations with natural resources ripe for extraction. Ghana began pumping its first commercial oil last year. Two offshore fields are estimated to hold nearly three billion barrels of oil combined.
