Mission support running on empty: pollsters

Extending military mission would be near impossible, pollsters say, but development surge could prove popular.

Public patience with Canada's combat mission in Afghanistan has pretty well run out, say leading pollsters as the debate over the future of the Canadian military mission heats up in Parliament.

However, they say a surge of civilian manpower and development support to Afghanistan in the post-2011 period could prove popular with voters, and is likely the safest political trail the government could blaze....
