Jumping the gun on Middle East ownership

For quite some time now, a popular myth has been promulgated by Israel's enemies and has unfortunately been accepted as fact by the Canadian media (Re: "Is Israel above criticism?" Feb. 17). The myth is that of Israel as the "occupiers of the Gaza Strip."

Contrary to Harry Sterling's contention, occupation implies being able to impose your will on the occupied. As Israel disengaged from Gaza, removing over 8,500 settlers in the summer...

Where does international law figure into this, Mr. Fegelman gives Israel too much credit, they have illegally annexed territory that was outside their internationally recognized borders. This and the methods they used to do so, are in fact, contrary to international law and the Geneva convention. Israel needs to be sanctioned by the international community, let them truly live alone for awhile and see if they want to put on their big-person pants and play by the rules.

What term would Mr.Fegelman prefer? I am trying to understand how one is to find sympathetic ground from which to see the Israeli military action. What nation in history has been the subject of more human rights abuse allegations? The use of the word allegation does not do justice- it implies unproven charges. The rational minds of the world are not swayed by double speak and red herrings. Let the disproportionate amount of Western funding cease until the deal is signed, force this arrogant step child that is Israel back into the realm of the liberal-democratic. It is the duty of Israel's allies to tell her when she is wrong. Let's see how her tune changes when her allowance is cut off.
