Over the past decade, Canada's relevance to Southeast Asia has waned.

In Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore and other regional capitals, Canada no longer appears on radar screens as an attentive and relevant participant in regional affairs.

Meanwhile, major powers like the US and China are actively courting the region and seeking a role in the next generation of regional institutions.
