Tories are promoting basic rights abroad, but leery about same-sex marriage here: NDP.

The Harper government has moved to make the promotion of gay rights a more prominent part of its human rights agenda in its foreign policy, say observers.

In recent months, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has made more and more public statements on gay rights, continuing a trend that started before his time as minister.

Its interesting that the Conservative Government has taken away federal funding of Pride Parades but spend considerable amounts of federal taxpayer dollars delivering the Grey Cup to Vancouver on board a military helicopter.

Those of us living in Vancouver were unsure whether Peter McKay accompanied the Grey Cup in the military helicopter.

Surprise surprise. The left won't give Harper's Conservatives their due, even when they are outspoken defenders of LBGT rights abroad. Stand up for gay rights? Hidden agenda. Stand up for the rights of mothers abroad? Your whole plan is evil because you won't push abortion on other countries. Nothing will every please the left in this country.

What problem do people have with understanding that people might not be fully supportive of gay marriage, but do not want to see people beaten, killed, or persecuted by a state due to their sexuality?
