For decades, Canada has been a leading advocate for women's rights on the world stage. At international conferences, Canadian delegates have long represented the country in important dialogues and the drafting of landmark documents. In 1948, Canada ratified the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and in 1979, it joined the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
