Urgent Afghan defence purchases led to errors

Auditor general calls for new procurement process to fill gap.

The Department of National Defence succeeded in quickly procuring life-saving combat vehicles for the Afghan mission, but had to break most of its own procurement guidelines to get the job done, an audit has found.

As such, Auditor General Sheila Fraser has recommended National Defence craft a new, streamlined procurement process for urgently needed equipment.
