What to make of the 2005 Harris Poll that shows an astonishing 44 per cent of Americans believe that Iraqis numbered amongst the 9/11 hijackers?

Or the 64 per cent of Americans who–just last month–told pollsters that Saddam Hussein had "strong links with Al Qaeda."

Or how about the 50 per cent of Americans who say that Iraq harboured weapons of mass destruction when the United States...
