President of the Asian Development Bank says interdependence among Asian countries brings risk of contagion

Haruhiko Kuroda assumed the Presidency of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in February, 2005. Prior to joining ADB, Mr. Kuroda worked as a special advisor to Japanese president Junichiro Koizumi, and in his country's finance ministry. Mr. Kuroda was instrumental in designing and implementing the Japanese response to the 1997-98 Asian 'flu,' the financial crisis which paralyzed developing economies in the region.
