Too many times now

Had former prime minister Jean Chrétien told Paul Martin to bug off and to stop plotting against him, Martin would not be Prime Minister today. Had Chrétien said this loudly and forcefully, Martin would have done what he repeatedly does whenever the going gets tough -- he would have blinked and backed off.

There was the threat of a complete breakdown at the first ministers' conference...
