Nobel logic

The announcement by the Nobel Prize committee on October 8 that the 2004 Peace Prize had been awarded to Kenyan environmentalist Dr. Wangari Maathai caught many observers by surprise. Nuclear proliferation, genocide, and war remain pressing concerns on the global stage, and there was almost immediate criticism of the choice of a Peace Prize winner who is best known for planting trees in Africa.
