On a rainy afternoon at Rideau Hall, Joni Mitchell reminisces

"Can you smoke in here?" The question is posed politely, in the warmly-lit Pauline Vanier room of Rideau Hall, a cozy repository of historic early Canadian furniture. Outside the French windows, rain falls steadily on the late-season gardens.

"No, we're sorry, there are no smoking rooms in the whole residence," comes the reply.
