Preservationists meet opposition inside Iraq

In May 2003, U.S. Forces in Al Kut, Iraq decided to do something about a First World War British military cemetery they reportedly found "eyeball high" in garbage and overgrown weeds. The Kut War Cemetery contains the remains of some 400 men. The Al Kut siege, which lasted for more than 140 days, saw 13,500 British and colonial Indian troops surrounded by the Ottoman army.
