Political interference in Rights & Democracy |

And what if the true agenda is to run Rights and Democracy right into the ground? Another quality public service destroyed to prove that public services are doomed to fail, and that only the private sector can adequately deliver any service worth offering. "Fairness, good governance and accountability..." These are values that this Conservative government screamed were lacking while they were in opposition. Now in (minority, and not even majority) power, in the name of conservative reductionist ideology, the current government has completely debased whatever worth these "values" ever had here in Canada. No price is too great. What is now happening at Rights and Democracy is but one more symptom of the cancer that is spreading throughout the Public Service in the name of reduction, privatization, and achieving the corporate-ruled state. A Public Service that until recently was touted as one of the best in the world, to the conservative movement's chagrin. Corporatism, and the advance of the corporate interest at the expense of the public interest, is leading to such concentration of power and wealth in the hands of the few, that it may soon become futile to try stopping the corporate steamroller. Gone will be our rights, gone will be our democracy, prorogation oblige, and gone will be the Canada that we spent so much in time, treasure and efforts to build. A Canada which made us the rights and democracy envy of the world. A great heritage so easily and readily squandered! Oh Canada, you say? Pity. We may have stood on guard, but we eagerly stepped aside to make sure that profit and greed would trump that which would would keep us glorious and free. Larry Rousseau Ottawa. |
